The community also has a clinic with a nurse who lives in community and a community store which is opened 7 days a week offering fresh fruit and vegetables to the locals as well as all other convenience store options.

    Pilbara Institute is the largest training provider in North West WA and enrolled approximately 8,000 students in 2012. This number includes residents of the major towns of Port Hedland, Karratha, Roebourne, Newman, Tom Price and Onslow and outlying communities, as well as individuals from all around the State and Fly In/Fly Out workers. The Institute is the largest trainer of apprentices and trainees in the region. Pilbara Institute’s profile delivery comprises30% Trade Training – Apprenticeships , 30% Health/Community Services/ Business , 30% Aboriginal Education and Training , 10% Other :In terms of training products, Pilbara Institute delivers programs which range from entry-level certificates through to Advanced Diplomas, as well as community capacity-building programs (literacy and numeracy, Work Ready and return to work) and customised programs for industry. Students can opt to study via a range of methods including on-line, blended delivery, correspondence, block delivery and face-to-face workshops.

  • YMCA Newman Early Learning Centre

    The facility was purpose built by the YMCA in partnership with BHP Billiton Iron Ore in 2009 to support the needs of the local community. The centre has an amazing natural outdoor environment with real grass, trees, vegetable, a flower gardens and chickens, as well as offering a diverse creative arts program. The sense of community and homely atmosphere makes our centre a home away from home. At every opportunity, children are discovering and bringing their learning to life. We offer places for children from birth to 5 years, we only serve nutritious home-style food and we pride ourselves on offering extremely affordable fees. The centre is a member of Remida; a creative reuse centre that supplies recyclable materials to services for children to be creative with and learn about sustainability. YMCA Newman Early Learning Centre is also the base for a range of YMCA’s Family Support Programs, supporting Indigenous families and children in Newman and outlaying communities. We are committed to improving outcomes for Indigenous children and assisting them in successfully transitioning into school.
