The Pilbara offers a huge range of tourist attractions, including ancient natural landscapes, spectacular national parks as well as secluded beachside reserve. There are numerous cultural and heritage attractions, such as historic rock art, Martumili Art Gallery as well as an array of unique regional events.

The Shire of East Pilbara is the largest Shire in the Australia covering approximately 372,571 square kilometres; larger than the state of Victoria. Driving will take 2 days to cross from east to west and 6 hours from north to south. Our landscape is diverse, offering the desert sands of the Great Sandy and Gibson Deserts to pristine coastal reserve at Cape Keraurdren.

Our natural landscape offers breathtaking views and there is an abundance of choice for the explorer, camper, caravaner and 4wd enthusiests.

The Shire of East Pilbara contains 3,144km of unsealed roads so if the great outdoors appeals to you, then the East Pilbara can deliver.

Newman is only 191km from the Karijini National Park and serves as a great starting point when wanting to visit Karijini. With regular daily commercial flights in and out of Newman and 4wd and motor car hire available at the Newman Airport, seeing the wonderful sights of the Pilbara is made both comfortable and easy. The Newman Visitor Centor is a "must visit" due to the resources it provides for the tourist or visitor.

Mining tours of the worlds largest open cut iron ore mine, Mount Whaleback, depart Newman Visitor Centre on a daily basis throughout the tourist season. Advance bookings for this popular tour are advised to ensure your seat and the Newman Visitor Centre can be contacted on 08 9175 2888.

It is recorded that diamonds were first discovered in our region and history records gold mining booms at numerous locations in our region so if prospecting is your passion we are happy to advise there are opportunities aplenty.

There are three towns in the Shire of East Pilbara, Newman, Marble Bar and Nullagine. Each of our towns offers something unique for the traveller, therefore we do encourage you to consider driving the Marble Bar Road which links the three towns.

The Canning stock route runs through our Shire and Newman is considered a great starting point due to the facilities that the town provides for such a trip.
