Coming to Newman!!

BreastScreen WA is bringing its FREE screening mammogram service to Newman from 31st March 2025 to 11th April 2025. The mobile clinic will be located at: Newman Visitor Centre, Newman Drive

Eligibility:

Women aged 40 years and over with no symptoms are eligible for a FREE screening mammogram.

Why Screen?

Breast cancer is the most common life-threatening cancer for women in Australia, with 1 in 7 women expected to develop it in their lifetime. A screening mammogram (breast x-ray) every two years significantly increases the chance of survival and reduces the amount of treatment needed.

Key Facts:

  • More than 75% of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50.
  • Screening is most effective for women in this age group.
  • Early detection through screening can mean the cancer is small and more treatable.
  • Screening mammograms detect 70 to 90% of breast cancers.

Dr. Elizabeth Wylie, BreastScreen WA’s Medical Director, said:

“Screening every two years is vitally important. Finding a breast cancer when it is too small to feel or be noticed significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. A free screening mammogram only takes 20 minutes and could save your life.”
