Citizenship award nominations have opened
The Shire of East Pilbara invites community members to nominate an unsung hero who gives more than usual to the local community.
Nominations are open for local heroes who are always giving selflessly to others, whether it be in the sporting clubs, social clubs and community activities, there are always citizens there to help others and who love to share the load.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said citizenship was at the heart of communities and made them better places to live.
“Commitment to community is always something that is a selfless task and deserves to be recognised for the significant contribution it makes for all, whether it be umpiring sporting events or volunteering time on kiosks and stalls, every bit helps.
“I encourage you to nominate someone in your community who gives and doesn’t expect anything in return,” Cr Middleton said.
Nominees for the individual award categories (Community Citizen of the Year, Young and Senior) must demonstrate active positive community engagement and meet the following criteria:
- Significant contribution to the local community.
- Demonstrated leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life.
- A significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life.
- Inspiring qualities as a role model for the community.
Nominees for the group/event award category must demonstrate community engagement and meet any of the following criteria:
- Group/event that creates community engagement.
- Group/event that creates initiatives for new employment.
