The Shire of East Pilbara and BHP join forces to enhance the streetscape and safety on Armstrong Way.
Through a shared vision, the Shire and BHP are embarking on a mission to enhance the streetscapes and safety of Armstong Way through a series of initiatives. These include increased greening, tree planting, streetscape enhancements, community clean-up drives, as well as the installation of lighting, security features, and improved access aimed at bolstering residents’ safety.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Anthony Middleton, Shire President, stated, "Council eagerly anticipates the commencement of activities aimed at rejuvenating the area and bolstering safety standards by upgrading security infrastructure."
An integral component of the project is the Community Art Project spearheaded by Tay from Meraki Boho, which will culminate in the creation of a captivating floor mural in the alleyway linking Armstrong Way and Knox Way. Prior to the mural's inception, Meraki Boho will engage with local schools in Newman to gather input for the alleyway design, ensuring that the community's voice is heard and reflected in the final artwork. Recognising the significance of this pathway to East Newman inhabitants, the Shire eagerly anticipates its revitalisation, complete with enhanced lighting to ensure nighttime safety.
BHP’s General Manager Newman Operations, Rod Ballinger, said: “These initiatives will go a long way to improving and enhancing the liveability of the East Newman community, and we’re proud to be partnering with the Shire to bring this revitalisation project to life.”
The Shire and BHP are dedicated to supporting the execution of key initiatives aimed at enhancing the liveability of East Newman, understanding that this venture represents just one stride towards addressing the community's evolving needs.
