Lang Coppin O.A.M. awarded Freeman of the Shire of East Pilbara
On 10 of April 2024, the Marble Bar Community gathered in a celebration of Lang Coppin O.A.M. as he was awarded the Honour of Freeman of the Shire of East Pilbara.
For over 46 years Lang Coppin has diligently and avidly represented his community of Marble and provide exceptional leadership during his time as a Councillor at the Shire of East Pilbara, officially retiring in late 2023.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said, “The Honour of Freeman of the Shire of East Pilbara, which is the highest award Council can bestow, and is extended exclusively to those who have shown outstanding, on-going, and extensive community involvement.”
“With his experience as a pastoralist and cattlemen, Cr Coppin has used his knowledge and background to further the economic and social goals of the Marble Bar community and the Shire of East Pilbara as a whole.”
Mr Coppin has been and continues to be a strong advocate for the provision of safe and reliable infrastructure and services across some of the most remote and isolated parts of Australia.
Having served on numerous committees during his time as a councillor and as the Shire Deputy President. Cr Coppin has continuously stood up to give a voice to his community.
The Shire of East Pilbara is excited to celebrate Cr Lang Coppin and his 47 years of service to the Shire of East Pilbara by awarding him with the Honour of Freeman of the Shire.
His ongoing work for the communities of East Pilbara resulted in national recognition in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, with the award of a Medal of the Order of Australia (in the General Division) for service to the community of East Pilbara. The impact of Cr Lang Coppin’s service to the community is felt deeply and it is with great honour that the Shire of East Pilbara awards Cr Coppin with the Honour of Freeman of the Shire of East Pilbara.
