Lee Lane Upgrades

The Shire of East Pilbara is in the final stages of completion of the refurbishment of Lee Lane in Newman.

The revitalisation of the area included demolition of existing infrastructure and services and an upgrade to lighting, irrigation and drainage, new landscaping including trees, plants, feature walls and paths, more seating along with artwork depicting the local fauna and flora, the final stage will be the installation roof shades which will soon be attached to steel structures for improved safety.

The project also includes outdoor tables, LED lights, CCTV and speakers for music.

Shire President Anthony Middelton said, “The shops along Lee Lane have also been given a refurbishment with the Shire giving them a fresh paint job in neutral colours to match in with the overall colour scene of the Lee Lane refurbishment.

Shops remained open during the street works so local trading was not affected.

“While the overall scope of works for the project came in under budget, this was largely due to some of the works being completed in-house which saw further savings and the bonus of more professional development for staff,” Cr Middleton said.

“Later next month on the 23 May 2025 at 7pm we are hosting Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse for an evening of ancient language and contemporary music in the town square which will be a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the new Lee Lane refurbishment. Plans are also underway for markets and pop up events in the area.”

“I encourage everyone to come along and support our local businesses and enjoy the new space.”
