Road Safety warnings for local residents this Festive season

The Shire of East Pilbara has issued a warning to all residents to be aware of road safety and potential flooding, this festive season. Shire President Anthony Middleton said residents should exercise extreme caution driving in the wet conditions.

“The tropical lows we experience at this time of the year often bring large amounts of rainfall which can flood, and I ask all drivers will exercise extreme caution, in these conditions,” Cr Middleton said.

Cr Middleton said he wanted all people traveling in the Shire to remain vigilant if the roads they are travelling on have been hit by summer storms.

“Stock up and make sure you have enough supplies in case shortages occur from bad weather and always carry water and fuel.” he said.

Check for Advice Warning levels on the WA Emergency websites.

The Northwest can expect rain and thunderstorms throughout the festive season so do be aware with these conditions that roads are prone to flooding and make sure everyone in your vehicle is wearing their seat belt and babies are safe in their restraints.

Other road safety tips include making sure to keep to the speed limit as this is the biggest killer on our roads; making sure your body is alcohol and drug-free if you are driving the next day after a celebration; don’t drive tired, rest before driving and adjust your driving style to conditions.

Slow down if it’s raining or getting dark or if you’re driving on gravel or roads you haven’t travelled on before.

Be on the lookout for kangaroos and other animals if you are driving at dusk.
