Driving in pastoral regions? Keep an eye out for wandering livestock, especially at dusk and dawn, when animals are most active.
The Shire of East Pilbara covers some 371,696 square kilometers with a large proportion held in pastoral leases.
Due care needs to be taken when driving through the Shire especially at night. Straying stock and wildlife are often found on roads located throughout the Pilbara, especially around Marble Bar.
Tips for staying safe:
> Reduce your speed in areas where livestock may be present.
> Stay alert and scan the road and roadside for animals.
> Be prepared to stop suddenly but avoid swerving into oncoming traffic or off the road.
