Notice of Public Comment - BHP development proposal

The Shire has received an application on behalf of BHP to construct five shade structures.
In accordance with the Planning and Development (Town Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 the proposal is being advertised for public comment.
The development proposal includes aspects outlined below which may potentially impact on the amenity of adjoining properties and will require the Shire's discretion. Comments regarding these aspects are invited:
The shade shelters are proposed to be located on Crown Land and are not listed as a permitted use under the Town Planning Scheme No4. It has been proposed that they be located along known walking trails and existing meeting areas providing shade for the town’s residents along Kalgan and Nimingarra Drive, East Newman.
The proposed structures will be 6m long x 3.5m wide and 3.2m high and will have security mesh screening on two sides and be located as follows:
- Shelter 1 is located within Crown Land on the north eastern intersection of Kalgan Drive and McLennan Drive. This location is a pedestrian entrance to East Newman.
- Shelter 2 is located within the Corunna Way Road Reserve on the western side of the existing road carriage way. This site is a known meeting place at the entrance to East Newman.
- Shelter 3 is proposed to be located within Lot 18 Nimingarra Drive, a drainage reserve, the shelter is north of the storm water drainage line.
- Shelter 4 is located on the drainage reserve between the intersection of Armstrong Way and Knox Way and Nimingarra Drive.
- Shelter 5 is proposed by the applicant to be located within the drainage reserve, opposite the intersection of Nimingarra Drive and Knox Way.
