Online Form - Christmas Lights Competition 2024

Terms and Conditions

1. Only one entry per household will be accepted.

2. Entry Forms: Completed entry forms must be submitted to the Shire of East Pilbara (the Shire) by Monday, 2 December 2024. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances. No exceptions. Entries are open from 8:00am on Monday, 11 November 2024 and will only be accepted up to 8:00am on Monday, 2 December 2024.

3. Competition is open to all homes and businesses in the Shire including Newman, Marble Bar and Nullagine.

4. Lights must be displayed between 1 to 25 December 2024 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

5. Judging Times:

o Judging will take place at the judges' discretion. Displays must be illuminated for public viewing and judging from the following times:

▪ Newman: Tuesday, 3 December 2024 between 7:00pm to 9:00pm
▪ Marble Bar: Wednesday, 4 December 2024 between 7:00pm to 9:00pm
▪ Nullagine: Thursday, 5 December 2024 between 7:00pm to 9:00pm

6. Media Consent: By submitting your entry form you agree to the details you share on the form and images taken of your entered property be used for marketing, media and promotional purposes.

7. The Official Judging will be done by representatives from the Shire and will be independently judged on a scale of 1-5 across the following criteria: presentation, general appearance, design, decoration form and composition, festive theme, creativity and innovation.

8. The judges' decision is final. No correspondence or appeals will be entertained regarding the outcomes.

9. Prizes: The Shire reserve the right not to award a prize if entries do not meet the desired level of effort or quality.

10. Display Scope: Judging applies only to exterior displays, and assessments will be made from the front of the property.

11. Display Composition: Displays must consist of Christmas lights and decorations only.

12. Electrical Safety: The misuse of electricity can lead to injury or death. Entrants must comply with all safety instructions on electrical products with their displays.

13. Disqualification for Unsafe Practices: Entrants are required to maintain electrical safety at all times. Misuse of electricity or non-compliance with safety standards may result in disqualification.

14. Electrical Inspections: It is recommended that entrants arrange inspections by qualified electricians, at their own expense, to ensure the safety of their displays.

15. Insurance: Entrants are encouraged to review their household insurance policies to ensure that adequate coverage is in place for their displays.

16. Traffic and Pedestrian Safety: Entrants must consider the impact of their displays on pedestrian and vehicular traffic and take necessary measures to mitigate risks. Entrants are responsible for ensuring public safety around their displays.

17. Display Boundaries: Entrants are not permitted to use the footpath, utility poles, or any property outside of their boundary (including the verge) for display purposes.

18. Rental Properties: It is advised that tenants seek written permission from their landlords prior to entering the competition.

19. Liability and Indemnity: By entering, participants agree to indemnify the Shire of East Pilbara from any accidents, injuries, or damages resulting from their participation in the competition.

20. Organiser Responsibility: The organisers and sponsors of the event are not responsible for any damage, injury, or theft that may occur as a result of participation in the competition.

21. Non-Compliance: Failure to comply with the competition’s terms and conditions may
result in the cancellation of an entrant's participation.

22. Community Spirit: The Christmas Lights Competition is intended to promote community engagement and the spirit of giving. Entrants are expected to participate with a positive attitude and uphold the values of the event.

23. People’s Choice Award Voting:

23.1 Community members may only cast one vote for either a residential or business property. Votes must include the voter's name, address, and phone number.

23.2 Incomplete or improperly filled-out entry forms will not be considered for the competition. Entrants are responsible for reading and complying with all terms and conditions.

24. Applicability: These terms and conditions are applicable only to entrants within the Shire of East Pilbara.


CATEGORIES:


BEST RESIDENTIAL HOUSE

Open to residential properties within the Shire of East Pilbara. Commercial or business buildings are not eligible for this category.

BEST BUSINESS

Open to local businesses within the Shire of East Pilbara.

PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD

Community members can vote for one residential or business property. Winners of the Best Residential House and Best Business categories are not eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

Marble Bar and Nullagine votes must be received by 8:00am on Monday, 2 December 2024 to [email protected] or dropped off at the Marble Bar Civic Centre, 24
Francis St, Marble Bar, WA 6760.

Newman votes must be received by 8:00am on Monday, 2 December 2024 to [email protected] or dropped off at the Newman Administration Building, Corner Kalgan & Newman Drives, Newman, WA 6753.
